Toepel Announces Committee Assignments for Legislative Session

Rep. Marcy Toepel (R-Montgomery) has been named to serve on the Consumer Affairs, Health, Judiciary, and Local Government committees during the 2011-12 legislative session.

“I look forward to getting to work on the legislation assigned to these committees, as well as ensuring that our taxpayer’s hard-earned dollars are used responsibly,” said Toepel.

The Consumer Affairs Committee is primarily tasked with legislation issues such as the credit card information act, unfair trade practices and consumer protection law, telephone and mail solicitations.

The Health Committee studies legislation involving health and welfare-related issues. The committee also deals with constituent issues such as Americans with Disabilities Act compliance, Health care for the uninsured, and welfare reform.

The Judiciary Committee deals with legislation such as firearms, sex offenses, criminal justice, juvenile offenders, crime victim rights, and family law.

The Local Government Committee is responsible for legislation associated with municipal codes, assessment laws, boundary charges, and planning and zoning.

“While there have been encouraging signs regarding our economy, there is still much work to be done,” added Toepel.
