Toepel, Vereb Seeking Korean War Veterans in Montco

Special ceremony to be held for these veterans in September

HARRISBURG – Because this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Korean armistice, Reps. Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery) and Marcy Toepel (R-Montgomery) are seeking local Korean War veterans to honor them at an upcoming ceremony recognizing all Korean War veterans in Montgomery County.

“Unfortunately, the Korean War is often known as the ‘Forgotten War’ because it was sandwiched between World War II and the Vietnam War,” said Vereb. “It’s not forgotten and our local veterans from this conflict deserve special recognition and the utmost respect.”

“It is important that we show our Korean War veterans that we remember, respect and honor the sacrifices they made on our behalf, and I look forward to honoring them at a special event,” said Toepel.

Vereb and Toepel will join other local and state lawmakers from Montgomery County as they will honor those who fought in the Korean War at a special event in September 2013, where the Korean ambassador will present medals to veterans of the conflict. The exact date for this event has not yet been determined.

All local Korean War veterans who would like to be honored at this event are asked to contact Vereb’s district office in Collegeville at (610) 409-2615 or Toepel’s Red Hill office at (215) 679-3082. Veterans will be asked to submit their name, rank, branch of service, time of service, current address and telephone number.

Each veteran will be presented with a certificate and medal in honor for his or her service. Widows and widowers of Korean War veterans are also welcome to participate in the ceremony and accept a certificate and medal on behalf of their late spouses.
