Hennessey, Quigley and Toepel to Host Paper Shredding Event on May 14
5/6/2016
HARRISBURG – Reps. Tim Hennessey (R-Chester/Montgomery), Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery) and Marcy Toepel (R-Montgomery) will host a free paper shredding event on Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to noon to give Montgomery County residents the opportunity to safely destroy any sensitive personal documents.

“Identity theft is a real and legitimate concern of millions of Americans,” Toepel said. “While it can’t be prevented, there are actions to take to minimize the threat of personal information being compromised. Most importantly, paperwork that contains birth dates, Social Security numbers, bank account information and other sensitive or identifying information should always be disposed of safely.”

The event, which will feature an on-site industrial paper shredder, will take place in the parking lot of the Pottsgrove Middle School, 1351 North Hanover St., Upper Pottsgrove. It will be held rain or shine.

“Residents are welcome to bring up to five packing boxes of materials to be shredded,” Hennessey said. “As all shredding takes place onsite, they may watch their documents being destroyed.”

Because the event is for household paper shredding needs, paper will not be accepted from businesses or organizations. The boxes residents use to bring documents for shredding will be returned to them; the shredding company will not keep nor shred boxes.

“This is a great, free opportunity for people to protect themselves by disposing of large quantities of documents with personal information,” Quigley said. “We encourage everyone to bring their credit card statements, utility bills and medical bills – and any other documents with personal information – for safe disposal.”
