Marcy Toepel was officially sworn in as state representative to the 147th Legislative District on the floor of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives today.

“The people of my district sent me to Harrisburg to be their voice,” said Toepel.  “The decisions made in this chamber have a significant impact on Montgomery County and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure it is a positive impact.”

Presiding over the swearing-in ceremony was Speaker of the House Keith McCall (D-Carbon) while Magisterial District Judge Maurice Saylor administered the oath.  Amongst the supporters of friends and family present at the ceremony were Ethel Ritchey, mayor of Pennsburg; Robert Young, chairman of Upper Frederick Township Supervisors; Bob Kerns, chairman of Montgomery County Republican Committee; Brittany Tressler, executive director of Montgomery County Republican Committee; and Nancy Becker, recorder of deeds for Montgomery County.

“Taking the oath of office today, I was humbled and grateful, it’s truly a special privilege becoming a member of this body,” said Toepel.  “I am aware of the challenges that lay ahead but I vow to serve with 100 percent dedication and honor.”

Toepel joins the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in the midst of negotiations for the state budget, which is due by June 30.

“The state budget is going to be my first major vote in a tough budget year,” said Toepel.  “I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to give the people of Pennsylvania a responsible budget.”

Toepel was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in a special election held on May 18 to complete an unexpired term of former Rep. Bob Mensch, now a state senator.  Previously, she served as first deputy to the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds.

The 147th Legislative District comprises part of Montgomery County consisting of the Townships of Douglass, Lower Frederick, Marlborough, part of New Hanover, Perkiomen, Salford, Skippack (portion), Upper Frederick, Upper Hanover, and Upper Salford.  The district also includes the Boroughs of East Greenville, Green Lane, Pennsburg, Red Hill and Schwenksville.
