Business Spotlight - Bauman's
My business tour visits led me to Bauman’s, a local institution known for its apple cider and apple butter products in Sassamansville. I had the pleasure of meeting Kathy Bauman and employee Kate Carver at the store and processing plant. Established by John Bauman in 1892, the Bauman family has been pressing apples for making cider and a selection of fruit butters ever since. Known for their cider and apple butter, they make these products both under the family label and for other establishments located along the eastern seaboard.

During my tour, I learned the processes for making cider, apple butter and other fruit butters. The Baumans work with area farmers both to supply the fruit products and to take the fruit waste that is used as feed for area livestock. In addition, the plant uses sawdust from a local sawmill and freight pallets to heat the facility. A good environmental steward in our community, Bauman’s is inspected by the FDA and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture annually.

Everyone who works for Bauman’s pride themselves on the success of the family business and welcomes people to stop by to purchase their products. Plant tours are available upon reservation.

I was proud to learn more about this 120-year-old business and wish the owner many more decades of success.
